Deep cleaning is an important procedure that needs to be done if periodontal or gum disease is present. It's important to remove the diseased portions so that your teeth don't run the risk of falling out. The entire procedure, which is also called scaling, is the process of removing plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth and from the area between the teeth and gums. The team member can perform scaling and root planing using either electric or ultrasonic instruments or manual scaling tools.
The other part of the deep cleaning process is called root planing. The team member will use a scaling instrument that removes plaque and tartar from the surface of the roots of your teeth. This is very important to do so we ensure the gums stay attached to the teeth and protect the roots efficiently. A scaling and root planing procedure usually requires a minimum of two visits as an appointment. A follow-up visit may be necessary to confirm that your gums and teeth are getting healthier and there is no pocket depth. Give us a call today if you have any additional questions.
